Standards
Everything that defines what "good" means in my courses, in one place. Each page below carries one layer of it.
- Course Standards - how you work in any course of mine, whatever the subject: your LMS for due dates, submitting what the assignment asks for, naming things, doing your own work, asking early, backups.
- Web Standards - what every page you build must satisfy, opening with the spirit behind the letter and closing with the full checklist. Includes the Course Site Standards: what your course website as a whole must carry - root site, site name, the footer's seven links, the brand, and the three pages every course site starts with.
- Introductions - the entry every course opens with, graded strictly on format: where it goes in the shared document, what it must contain, and the mistakes that cost people the most points. With an annotated example and finished samples.
- Discussion Boards - the ongoing boards that run all term, and which kind of post belongs on each: questions that need an answer, social, anonymous, and grading disputes.
- Journals and Work Logs - the format for each, the subject lines they need, and what counts as a post. Bonus Participation covers the points on offer for helping the class.
- Peer Reviews - what a useful review looks like, built from an analysis of over 800 real ones, plus the cut-and-paste GO/NO-GO form.
- Validation - the Vicunadator and the Accumulus cloud: what they check, how to read them, and how to put them on your own pages.
- Design Reference - the CRAP principles, the elements of design, and color theory, with Paper Leaf's posters to download.
When two of these ever seem to disagree, the more specific page wins - and tell me, because one of them needs fixing.
