Course Site Instructions
ITSC1110 • Introduction to Computer Science Principles
Your course site is in a folder in your UNC Charlotte webspace: webpages.charlotte.edu/youruserid/itsc1110/. It's small - just three pages that share one header and one footer. Your personal home page sits one level above it and links down to it.
The Folder
Name it itsc1110 - all lowercase, no dashes, no spaces. The checker looks for exactly that. Inside:
- index.html - the course home page
- introduction.html - your introduction
- ai_introduction.html - your AI introduction
- components - header.html and footer.html, the shared pieces
- scripts, styles, and images - the include script, your stylesheet (named default.css), and your pictures, each in its own folder
Those three pages are the whole site. You won't add others in this assignment.
Common Headers and Footers
Professional sites don't copy the same header and footer into every page - they reuse one copy. Update it once and every page changes with it.
- Get Paul Browne's HTMLInclude script (HTMLInclude.min.js from GitHub) and put it in your scripts folder.
- Create the components folder with header.html and footer.html. Put your header and footer in them - including the header and footer elements themselves. The header holds your site name and a navigation that links to all three pages.
- In each page, replace the whole header and footer with the include element from the HTMLInclude instructions, and add the script element at the bottom of the page.
View the source of one of your pages. If you can see a header or footer element in the page file itself, it's in the wrong place - the page should hold only the include.
The Three Pages
- Home (index.html) - welcomes a visitor, says what this site is, and points to the other two pages.
- Introduction (introduction.html) - your Shared Introduction from the course Google Doc, moved onto your own page. It follows the Introduction Webpage Standards, minus the links line.
- AI Introduction (ai_introduction.html) - described below.
The AI Introduction
Give an AI tool the facts about you, ask it to write your introduction, and publish the result - then be honest about how it did. The page has three parts, in this order:
- The AI's introduction, exactly as it wrote it. Don't edit it. Use UNC Charlotte's data-protected Gemini or Copilot, and give it only what you'd be comfortable putting on a public webpage - this page is public.
- Your comparison, a short paragraph or two beside your own introduction: what it got right, what it got wrong or invented, what it missed, and what you would never say that way.
- Your disclosure: the tool you used, the prompt you gave it, and the acknowledgment statement from the AI Policy.
What We Check
- The folder is named itsc1110, and holds index.html, introduction.html, and ai_introduction.html.
- components/header.html and components/footer.html exist and contain the header and footer elements, and your page source holds only the include.
- Every page passes Accumulus and the Vicunadator, and the Web Standards apply.
- The AI Introduction has all three parts. That one we read ourselves - no checker can tell an honest comparison from a hurried one.
Submitting
Submit the address of your course site - webpages.charlotte.edu/youruserid/itsc1110/, without index.html on the end. Canvas has the due date and the point value.
